FAAGRIC’S name is derived from Faith Agriculture (FA). FA is an agricultural research farm located in Isuochi, Nigeria, West Africa.
Over and over we have heard from many within Nigeria of the farming industry that is dying due to the amount of labor with small returns. Many youth are disillusioned at the amount of work their parents invested into the farm and have made a conscientious decision to find something better where in a country the unemployment exceeds over 50%. This has led to many people forsaking agriculture and ending up unemployed without food.
As one hand of LWC, FA connects with the people by offering practical research and training for the physical well being of the people of Nigeria in the areas of basic agriculture and physiological nutrition. FAAGRIC is a year-long program and opens its doors to anyone who desires to learn. Participants come from all walks of life. Some of the participants are civil workers, Ezes’ (Kings), nurses, pastors, students, teachers, and farmers, some of whom are illiterate.
We offer two hour lectures with one hour of practical work on the farm once a week. During this training, new ideas and methods are introduced to help assist them in improving their livelihood. This is done through the introduction of modifying traditional farming techniques or adapting to some of the concepts that we have introduced.
The Physiological Nutrition course concentrates on the physical body and how it responds to the fuel given to it. Sharing the benefits of the new foods being introduced helps create an atmosphere of willingness to try new things outside their cultural boundaries that will be made available to them upon harvesting the produce.
FAAGRIC’S courses were developed from the teachings given in the Bible, combined with the research, knowledge, and experience of leading health and agricultural experts.
Each participant in the program receives one of three styles of certificates available according to the level of participation.
The current small farmers usually have only enough land to grow crops on for only their very existence. FAAGRIC has been given a piece of land to start a project that will be autonomous so as to not jeopardize the small farmer. FAAGRIC was inaugurated on April 11, 2006, in Isuochi, Nigeria with the full support of local government leaders and pastors. FAAGRIC opened its doors to begin the process of learning and training with the Ezes (traditional leaders) on the week of May 1, 2006.
The following well known proverb fits some of what FAAGRIC hopes to do. “Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime.”
